In addition to being the Head Coach of the NC State Men’s Basketball team, Kevin Keatts has earned himself a side gig as the Siren operator at PNC Arena.
Not only will Keatts operate the siren prior to Carolina Hurricanes playoff games, but he will operate the siren prior to all Wolfpack home basketball games as well.
Keatts sounded the siren prior to the Hurricanes’ 5-0 Game 3 victory over the Washington Capitals in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
“Seriously, the Canes come back to Raleigh down two games to none,” incoming NC State Athletic Director Boo Corrigan said, “Keatts operates the Hurricane siren in Game 3, and the Canes obliterate the Capitals. He’s got that magic siren juju.”
“We’ll add that as a bonus to his contract.”
When asked about the bonus, outgoing Athletic Director Debbie Yow acted like she couldn’t hear the question.
“Sorry, y’all,” Yow said. “That game was loud AF last night. I still can’t hear shit.”
Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour echoed Corrigan’s sentiment, though.
“Kevin Keatts is a winner,” Brind’Amour said. “We need him on that siren as often as possible.”
When asked about it, Keatts was quick to downplay the situation.
“The Canes tore those Caps up last night,” Keatts told reporters. “All I did was work that siren like a ref.”
“Although I’d love to see Roy’s face when we bust it out for a basketball game.”
Wolfpack guard Braxton Beverly said he couldn’t wait to hear the siren go off during basketball games.
“PNC is gonna be lit,” Beverly added. “If only we could put it right behind the visitors’ bench.”
