Hurricanes Fan Doesn’t Believe Islanders Fans Exist

Jordan Staal scored in overtime as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Islanders in Game 1 of the NHL Eastern Conference Semifinals on Friday.

The Islanders have played in the National Hockey League since 1972, but one Canes fan doesn’t believe that the Islanders actually have a fan base.

“The only Islanders fan I’ve ever seen was that kid Jerry in the movie Heavyweights,” the Canes fan, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “After they came out with that horrendous logo in the 90’s, I couldn’t imagine anyone actually being a fan of them.”

When shown footage of Barclays Center from Game 1, the Canes fan rolled his eyes.

“Those aren’t real fans,” he explained. “Those are just paid actors. It’s all a conspiracy to boost TV ratings.”

When pressed by Islanders fans on social media, the Canes fan wasn’t convinced.

“I don’t know any of them,” the Canes fan replied. “They must be Russian bots.”

Some New York celebrities were quick to respond.

“Of COURSE there are Islanders fans,” New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio said. “Right?”

Actor Ralph Macchio, an avid Islanders fan, went so far as to place a bounty on the outspoken Canes fan.

“Ten grand,” Macchio said. “I’ll pay ten grand to whoever finds this guy and brings him to me, so I can teach him what a real Islanders fan looks like.”

Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. in Barclays Center.
