With the recent chicken sandwich debate inspiring heated discussion across the nation, University of North Carolina Head Football Coach Mack Brown weighed in Monday afternoon, choosing Chick-Fil-A over Popeye’s.
Brown told reporters that it turned out to be no contest.
“I don’t even have to try Popeye’s to know that Chick-Fil-A is better,” Brown explained. “First of all, I don’t like spinach. Second of all, I refuse to eat a chicken sandwich cooked by a sailor man.”
“Have you ever met Popeye the Chicken Sandwich man? Neither have I. Stick to the sea, poop-poop.”
UNC Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham said he was surprised that Brown made the controversial statement.
“I told that fool he didn’t need to give everyone the wrong idea, or to even make that sort of thing public knowledge,” Cunningham said. “We have several big-time recruits coming to visit the campus soon.”
“I just want all of our recruits to know that we at UNC think highly of Popeye’s and would never throw shade their way. Coach Brown was just clownin’.”
One recruit, who chose to remain anonymous, said he would be reconsidering UNC’s scholarship offer.
“I love that chicken from Popeye’s,” the recruit explained. “It made me feel some kind of way that Coach Mack wouldn’t even give it a chance.”
“He wasn’t clowning at all, you can tell he prefers that straight chicken.”
UNC opens its 2019 football season against South Carolina Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in Charlotte.
